Dead body found off Old Mill Road ruled a homicide
A man found dead off of Old Mill Road on Wednesday had “upper body trauma” according to an autopsy performed by the county medical examiner, and his death is being investigated as a homicide.
The victim’s age and name have not been released yet, pending notification of his next of kin, the FCPD said in a press release. A resident walking their dog found the body Wednesday afternoon near a bridge just past Gateshead Road (see map). The bridge crosses a creek and a narrow wooded area that divides the Mount Vernon Manor and Sulgrave Manor neighborhoods.
Police said they do not believe the death was random or that there is a larger threat to the public.
Old Mill Road remained closed until Thursday afternoon as police processed the scene.
The homicide is the 12th in the county and the third in the Richmond Highway area in 2019. A 16-year-old boy was killed and buried in the North Hill woods in May, and a 19-year-old man was killed in the Meadow Woods Apartments in Hybla Valley in October.
