Covering The Corridor is an independent, online news site focused on the Richmond Highway area of Fairfax County. It launched in February 2016 to deliver more news and information to residents of this historic, diverse and ever-changing section of the county.
What is the Richmond Highway area? For this site’s purposes, we cover the Route 1 corridor between the Capital Beltway and Fort Belvoir, as well as the surrounding neighborhoods, including Huntington, Belle View, Groveton, Penn Daw, Fort Hunt, Hybla Valley, Woodlawn, Mount Zephyr and Mount Vernon.
The Richmond Highway corridor is set to transform over the next few decades, as outlined in the Embark Richmond Highway plan. These changes will affect housing, transportation, local businesses, schools and more — and this site aims to be your resource for the latest reporting on those changes.
While Covering The Corridor remains a part-time venture for myself and those who contribute to it, we are working toward a way to make it a sustainable source of news. The site now publishes 10-12 stories most weeks and gets 25,000-35,000 visitors per month. We are also a member of the Local Independent Online Publishers group.
Please consider becoming a patron of Covering The Corridor by signing up as a Patreon subscriber. Patrons will be eligible for discounts to local restaurants and businesses.
