A man died early Saturday morning after being shot outside of a Hybla Valley apartment complex, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.

Police said the incident was called in around 12:30 a.m. after multiple gunshots were heard in the Meadow Woods Apartments, located in the 7100 block of Fairchild Drive (see map).

The victim was identified Saturday afternoon as Xyqwavius Brown, 19.

Police arrived on the scene and found Brown suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The first responders worked to save Brown, but he was pronounced dead after being taken to a local hospital, said Major Ed O’Carroll, Commander of the FCPD’s Major Crimes Bureau.

Detectives and officers were still working the scene around 10 a.m., interviewing residents and collecting evidence. A number of evidence markers were visible in front of the stairway entrance to one of the apartment buildings.

The FCPD said in their press release that they do not believe the shooting was random. The police also said that victim specialists from the FCPD’s Major Crimes Bureau’s Victim Services Division are providing assistance to the victim’s family.

The homicide is the 10th in Fairfax County this year. It is the second homicide in the Richmond Highway area in 2019. In May a juvenile was murdered in the North Hill woods; four people have been charged in connection to that killing.
