Lucky’s in Kingstowne closes
2019 was a bad year for locally-owned watering holes in Kingstowne, and another victim was claimed right before the calendar could flip this week when Lucky’s Sports Theatre & Grill in the Festival at Manchester Lakes shopping center closed its doors.
The popular sports bar was reported to be closed by regular patrons on social media as of Monday. There has been no official statement made yet by Lucky’s management or the proprietor of the establishment, former Washington Redskins linebacker Marvcus Patton.
Unsuccessful attempts have been made to contact management, though Lucky’s Facebook page posted a “Happy New Year message at approximately 4:30 p.m. the day after closing — likely the result of a social media account on autopilot. The Facebook page and the restaurant’s website both indicate Lucky’s is open, though the “closed” sign on its door belies that fact.
The closing comes after Fiona’s Irish Pub in Kingstowne Towne Center went out of business suddenly in June and two years after Bungalow Sports Grill, also in the Festival at Manchester Lakes shopping center, closed their doors permanently.
Patrons of Lucky’s and local residents have taken to social media to share their stories about time spent there over the years, as well as speculation as to what comes next for the Festival at Manchester Lakes. That shopping center is anchored by a Shoppers grocery store, which will soon be split into three spaces, according to reports.
That’s too bad. Nothing in that location shows signs of longevity.
