Update: Police arrest man who escaped from custody at hospital
Update at 8:45 a.m. on January 2: The Fairfax County Police announced earlier this morning that Jaquan Ross was caught in an apartment in the 7900 block of Richmond Highway around 3 a.m. The police said he was still wearing his handcuff.
A man wanted in multiple jurisdictions is at large after escaping from police custody at Inova Mount Vernon Hospital early Tuesday morning, according to a Fairfax County Police press release.

Jaquan Ross, 27, allegedly slipped away from an officer sometime around 7 a.m. Multiple officers, K9 dogs and the Fairfax1 helicopter searched for him after he took off towards Route 1, but the search was ultimately unsuccessful, police said.
According to police, bail bondsmen had captured Ross earlier in the night in the 6100 block of Richmond Highway, which is the location of a Days Inn Hotel (see map).
Ross requested medical attention after Fairfax Fire and Rescue had responded, and he was taken to the hospital, police said. His specific injuries or their cause weren’t specified. After being treated, Ross fled while handcuffs were still around one of his wrists, according to police.
In addition to warrants in Fairfax County, Ross is also wanted by authorities in the city of Alexandria and by the Virginia State Police. His charges in Fairfax include two counts of assault on family member, failure to appear on felony, failure to appear on misdemeanor, and violation of his condition of release. In Alexandria he has warrants out for felony aggravated assault on family member, assault on family member, destruction of property, and preventing the summoning of police. The state police have warrants for various alleged traffic violations.
Ross was also arrested earlier this year for allegedly leading police on a short chase on Janna Lee Avenue. He was charged with a number of drug-related offenses, and was served outstanding warrants for earlier charges. Court records indicate Ross did not show up for hearings on those charges.
Police are advising citizens to call 911 if they know of Ross’s whereabouts, and are cautioning people not to approach him. He described as being 5 foot 8 inches tall and 185 pounds.
