Bonchon rep says restaurant aiming to open in August/September

Bonchon will be located in the street-level retail spaces at The Beacon of Groveton.

Bonchon is still coming to Richmond Highway, it’s just taking a little longer than expected.

“We are looking at an estimated opening in August/September,” said Joy Evenson, director of marketing for Bonchon Franchise LLC. “Construction and permits have taken a while.”

Bonchon will be located in the street-level  retail space at the Beacon of Groveton at  6856 Richmond Highway. When it opens Bonchon will be the second business in the mixed-use building, which opened in 2012 with four retail spaces at street level. A mattress store is currently the only other tenant.

Last May, a representative from Bonchon confirmed that the Korean-style fried chicken chain was coming to the Groveton area. Since then there’s been little visible progress at the Beacon site; no sign or anything else indicating the restaurant is coming can be seen from the street.

Bonchon is one of three high-profile restaurants set to open this spring and summer in the Richmond Highway area. Two Brothers Soul Food and Lounge is scheduled to open May 25, while Bob & Edith’s Diner on North Kings Highway will open either in late May or June, according to the owner.
