Sewage bill divides local pols

A bill passed in the Virginia Legislature that requires the City of Alexandria to remedy a sewage system that dumps thousands of gallons of raw sewage into the Potomac River is pitting local politicians — all democrats — against each other.

Del. Mark Levine, whose district covers the city of Alexandria as well as part of the Richmond Highway area, chimed in over the weekend on a thread bashing the legislation on former Del. Rob Krupika’s Facebook page. Levine, Krupika and other Alexandria politicians are at odds with Sen. Scott Surovell — whose district covers much of the Richmond Highway area — and other legislators for pushing a bill that they say sets an unreasonable timeframe for fixing Alexandria’s sewage problem.

Edison girls, West Potomac boys finish strong

It was a big weekend for two local sports teams, as the Edison girls won their fifth consecutive 5A North Region title and West Potomac captured third place in the 6A boys tournament.

You can read about Edison’s amazing streak, kept alive by a team with no seniors, over at The Washington Post.

West Potomac couldn’t quite get to their first regional title game, but the Wolverines did overwhelm Herndon in the second half to finish third overall heading in to the state tournament, which starts Friday. The Wolverines also had two players and a coach make the all-region team, which you can read more about here
