Skrimp Shack coming to Mount Vernon Plaza

Skrimp Shack, a fast casual restaurant chain specializing in fish sandwiches and fried shrimp, is coming to the Mount Vernon Plaza Shopping Center.

Skrimp Shack will be located near the back of the shopping center next to China 1 at 7700E Richmond Highway (see map), according to the restaurant’s website and a leasing brochure for Mount Vernon Plaza.

The restaurant began applying for permits in late January, although construction on the space has not started yet. An email sent to the restaurant for more information on when the location plans to open was not immediately returned.

Skrimp Shack was founded in Newport News, Va., in 2011 by Mitch and Stacey Hartman. It has more than 30 locations, with the closest being in Dumfries and Manassas. It prides itself on being “Home of the FATTEST fish sandwich.”

The space at 7700E Richmond Highway had previously been an American Balloon store.
