An unassuming yet highly regarded restaurant in the Mount Zephyr section of the Richmond Highway corridor closed its doors this past week.

5 Ten Foodmart, located next to the Old Mount Vernon High School at 8339 Richmond Highway (see map), first opened in fall 2011 and quickly became known for its excellent and affordable multicultural cuisine and its friendly service. Customers raved on review sites about the restaurant’s Pho, spring rolls and other Vietnamese dishes, as well as its Latin American specialties like pupusas. The restaurant also served up traditional American fare like Philly cheesesteaks and fries.

Just as beloved as the cuisine were the restaurant’s owners, whom customers described as very friendly and helpful.

Attempts to reach the owners of the restaurant were unsuccessful as of press time.

5 Ten Foodmart is the second restaurant on the southern end of the Richmond Highway corridor to close this month. Las Cazuelas, located at the intersection of Buckman Road and Richmond Highway, closed earlier this month, although an owner of the business said that he hopes to reopen at some point.
