Thai Herbs now a taqueria, but still offering delivery and carryout service
If you’re a fan of Thai Herbs and have been wondering about the new restaurant that’s taken over their Richmond Highway location, have no fear: Thai Herbs still exists — just not as a sit-down restaurant.
The owner of the longtime eatery, located at 8501 Richmond Highway (see map), now shares its kitchen with a new tenant and will continue to offer carryout and delivery service after 5 p.m.
During the day, Thai Herbs is now focused on its three food trucks, which operate primarily on Fort Belvoir, Fort McNair in Washington D.C. and Marine Corps Base Quantico.
Thai Herbs owner Tip Indason said Monday that the restaurant’s dine-in business has slowed in recent years, even as its food truck, delivery and carryout business thrived. So instead of closing the restaurant, the dine-in space now belongs to Ojo’s Sports Bar & Lounge.
Ojo’s began operation in November and held its grand opening this past weekend. The taqueria, which Indason said specializes tacos al pastor, offers a simple menu of traditional Mexican favorites, as well as a salsa bar.
There is also a full bar and lounge area, and the restaurant’s Facebook page advertises a more mature nightclub scene that includes hookah specials, karaoke and exotic dancers.
Downfall of a once great place to get Thai food. They introduced Mexican food about a decade ago.
This has been going on for years. Nothing new.
