Update: Police say the attempted abduction did not actually happen.
The Fairfax County Police say a man attempted to abduct a Belle View Elementary student walking along Fort Hunt Road on Tuesday afternoon.
The attempted abduction happened between 4:15-5 p.m. in the 6600 block of Fort Hunt Road (see map). Police say the man grabbed the student from behind and picked the student up. The student fought off the man, and the individual fled the area.
The student returned to Belle View Elementary and told school administrators what had happened, at which point the police were called.
The suspect was described as being white, in his 40s, approximately 5 foot 11 inches tall, medium build, with short brown hair. He had a grey beard and red bumps on his face, and was wearing a brown hooded jacket, loose blue jeans and boots at the time of the incident.
Police are asking anyone with security cameras in the area of Fort Hunt Road to look through their footage to see if they captured an image of the suspect. Anyone with images or other information that could help investigators is asked to call the FCPD’s Major Crimes Division at 703-246-7800. Anonymous tips can also be sent to 1-866-411-TIPS (866-411-8477).
Belle View principal Thomas Kuntz sent a letter to parents on Monday alerting them to the incident:
Dear Parents and Guardians,
FCPD is investigating a possible attempted abduction case involving a Belle View Elementary School student while walking home from school yesterday. The incident occurred in the 6600 block of Fort Hunt Road. The student fought the man off and the suspect ran from the area. The student returned to school and notified administrators who immediately called police. The suspect was described as a white man in his 40s, approximately 5’11”, medium build, with short brown hair. He had a trimmed grey beard and red bumps on his face. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a brown hooded jacket, loose blue jeans and boots.
Detectives are asking community members in the area of Fort Hunt Road and Belle View Boulevard to review any home surveillance footage from Jan. 21 between 4 and 5 p.m. in case they may have captured an image of the suspect.
The investigation continues and there will be additional school security and FCPD patrol presence in the area. If you have additional information regarding this incident, please contact Fairfax County Police at 703-691-2131.
Student safety is our top priority, and I wanted to inform you of this situation to ensure our students are safe as they travel to and from school. Please talk with your children and urge them to always be aware of their surroundings and to avoid any seemingly dangerous situations. Students should immediately report any suspicious behavior to a known adult or the police.
Thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
Tom Kuntz, Principal
Get it correct. The school is not in Alexandria. It is in Fairfax County.
The story does not mention Alexandria.
It is called Alexandria as well. Look it up on a map. Alexandria, VA 22307
Imagine being such a City of Alexandria snob that you see something in the article which doesn’t actually exist HAHA
It is Alexandria, VA. It’s not in the City of Alexandria but Fairfax County. When you are listing your address in that area you write Alexandria, VA.
6701 Fort Hunt Rd, Alexandria, VA 22307

Fairfax County is very large, so it is important to note the incident/area location. Simply saying Fairfax County is not helpful. The author listed the address and a map is provided; however, an earlier reply is correct…22307 is not the city of Alexandria, but the Alexandria portion of Fairfax County. If that was in the article it would not be incorrect. Before pointing out incorrect “facts,” you should fact check your info.

Sorta like Lorton now being called Mason Neck – when I moved in it was Lorton, then as the population increased so did the boundaries. First Mason Neck was from George Mason’s Estate down to the river, then from Pohick Park to the river, then Old Colchester to the river – no idea where this so-called boundary is now probably Rt. 1
When I went to Ft. Hunt High School in the 60’s and lived in Riverside Gardens the mailing address was Alexandria, Va
Awesome. What will the consequences be for the “victim” who filed a false report? They need to be severe enough to discourage copycats.
