A pedestrian was hit by two vehicles and died on Richmond Highway near Fort Belvoir around 9:45 p.m. Thursday, according to the Fairfax County Police.

The crash happened in the northbound lanes in the 9100 block of Richmond Highway, near the Tulley Gate entrance to Fort Belvoir at Pohick Road (see map).

Police say the male victim was initially struck by a 2019 Dodge Ram pickup truck. He was then hit by a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am. Police say the victim was not in the crosswalk.

The pickup driver remained on the scene and is cooperating with police. The Grand Am driver did not realize they had hit the man until later, at which time they reported it to officers, according to the police.

The name of man killed had not been released as of Friday afternoon, as police were still trying to notify his next of kin.

The northbound lanes of Richmond Highway remained closed for hours after the crash in order to let the FCPD’s crash reconstruction investigate the scene. Anyone with additional information about the incident is asked to call 703-280-0543.

The fatal crash comes a week after another pedestrian was killed on Richmond Highway. Peace Nana Asante, 51, was struck near the South Kings Highway intersection last Thursday evening. She died at a local hospital later that night.

Two pedestrians were killed on Richmond Highway in all of 2019.
