Woodlawn area man killed in Interstate 66 crash
A Frye Road resident was killed in a crash on Interstate 66 in Warren County early Wednesday morning, according to the Virginia State Police.
Oscar Fernandez, 60, was struck and killed around 5:45 a.m. while standing in the shoulder by a driver operating a Toyota Sienna minivan. Fernandez was standing on the side of the roadway after a vehicle he was in was involved in a separate two-vehicle crash, according to the state police.
The Toyota Sienna that hit Fernandez was traveling west and lost control, hitting a Freightliner tractor-trailer in the left lane before veering off the roadway. The driver, a 58-year-old man, was treated at the scene for minor injuries. The tractor-trailer driver was not injured. Both drivers were wearing their seat belts.
The state police said slick conditions were a factor in both crashes, and that each incident remains under investigation.
