Pier 1 to close, Old Navy to take spot

Pier 1 Imports in the Mount Vernon Plaza Shopping Center will be closing, and an Old Navy store will be taking its place.

The Pier 1, located at 7684 Richmond Highway (see map), will close in early 2020, according to a manager at the location. Attempts to get more information from a Pier 1 spokeswoman were unsuccessful.

The Pier 1 in Mount Vernon Plaza opened in 2013. While it is unclear why the location is closing, Pier 1 did announce earlier this year that it would be closing up to 140 locations, according to the International Business Times.

The new Old Navy is expected to open in late 2020, a spokeswoman for the company said Wednesday. Old Navy has already began applying for construction permits, with the renovation work estimated cost $90,000, according to information on the permits.

    Curious if you’ve heard what might happen to the Shopper’s Food place once it inevitably closes? It seems like a really good location for Harris Teeter, which doesn’t have any south-of-the-beltway locations in FFX

    Hopefully this shopping center will be redeveloped as a town center over the next ten to fifteen years.
