See the routes for this year’s Tour de Mount Vernon
Maps of the two routes for this year’s Tour de Mount Vernon have been released by Supervisor Dan Storck’s office.
The annual bike ride, which is now in its fourth year, will begin at 8:30 a.m. on October 19 at the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton. Participants can take part in either a 20-mile ride (see on Map My Ride) or a 35-mile ride (see on Map My Ride) that will take people through western side of the Mount Vernon District as well as down the Mason Neck peninsula. The longer ride includes a section on Fort Belvoir.
You can still register for the Tour de Mount Vernon here. There is a $25 fee per rider, which includes Tour de Mount Vernon socks and a $5 donation to the Fairfax Alliance for Better Bicycling. Spokes, Etc. will be on hand to provide SAG support to riders, and ride monitors and the Fairfax Police will also be on the routes.
More information on registration and polices can be found on Storck’s website.
Around 100 cyclists took part in last year’s Tour de Mount Vernon, which featured 17-mile and 32-mile circuits. Those routes began at Fort Hunt Park.
The longer ride: approximately miles 17-19 are on US1, then crossing US1 at mile 27.
Will this be a significant disruption to US1 traffic during the event?
When to anticipate the disruptions to vehicular traffic?
Will riders have to stop for ID checks entering Fort Belvoir?
Yes, you’ll need your driver’s license number to get on Belvoir. More info is here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/4th-annual-tour-de-mount-vernon-tickets-67916067787
What is the cost for conducting this event? Is it public money? Nothing against bicycle riders, but lot of effort for 100 people.
Questions – but no answers.
