Rose Hill resident dies in Clifton motorcycle crash
A man from the Rose Hill area was killed in a crash near Clifton on Thursday evening, the Fairfax County Police announced Friday.
Joshua Baldwin, 37, died on the scene after a collision between his 2019 Harley Davidson motorcycle and a 2003 Nissan Maxima, the police said. The crash happened around 7:55 p.m. at the intersection of the Fairfax County Parkway and Popes Head Road (see map).
According to the police, the Nissan was traveling north on the Fairfax County Parkway when it attempted a left turn onto Popes Head Road. The Nissan is said to have had a flashing yellow left turn light at the time.
As the Nissan went through the intersection, Baldwin’s southbound motorcycle collided with it. The southbound light was green at the time, police said.
Baldwin was thrown from the motorcycle by the impact. Police did not say if he was wearing a helmet.
The driver of the Maxima and a passenger in the car sustained minor injuries and stayed on the scene, police said.
Police said that the motorcycle’s speed may have been in a factor in the crash, and are looking for anyone who may have witnessed the collision. Anyone with information is asked to call the FCPD’s Crash Reconstruction Unit at 703-280-0543, or submit an anonymous tip through the Crime Solvers website or by calling 1-866-411-8477.
You are certifiably crazy to ride a motorcycle in this area. I moved here in ’89 and had a motorcycle which I sold in ’91 because I knew if I didn’t I was going to die on it. The majority of bike riders have little to no training/experience/common sense. It’s sad to see anyone lose their life on a bike. A needless tragedy.
This is an insensitive post. Consider his friends and family reading this and how you refer to the deceased.
He had common sense and was a smart driver. Careful with thoughts. He was a beautiful person and one that is missed terribly.
Take down this stupid hurtful post!
Take this Post down you insensitive A-hole. Nobody cares what you did in 1991. This young man has a family that is grieving.
The driver should go to jail for negligent homicide. Anyway, I just got back from riding a big motorcycle in the land of India. But I would never ride a one here in the USA. Too many careless drivers who really don’t give a crap if they kill someone.
