Pedestrian injured in hit-and-run on Collingwood Road

A pedestrian was seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash on Collingwood Road late Sunday night.

The crash happened around 11 p.m. near the intersection of Lynnfield Drive (see map). Police believe that the striking vehicle was a Nissan SUV, and said in a press release that it may have damage to its undercarriage and perhaps its front end.

Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor the pedestrian, police said.

The crash closed Collingwood Road in both directions for hours as the police’s crash reconstruction team investigated. Anyone with information is asked to contact the police at 703-280-0543.

Although Collingwood Road is a sometimes busy cut-through between Fort Hunt Road and where it turns into Parkers Lane before Sherwood Hall Lane, crashes are very rare. Two crashes have been reported so far this year, according to Virginia’s Traffic Records Electronic Data System. No injuries were reported in either of those crashes. In 2018 there were no reported crashes on Collingwood Road.

This story has been updated with new information from the police, including corrected information about the location of the crash. Police now say the crash was at the intersection Lynnfield Drive and Collingwood Road, not Candlewood Drive and Collingwood Road.
