A two-alarm fire Wednesday afternoon in the Rose Hill area damaged a single family home but resulted in no injuries.

The fire broke out some time before 12:45 p.m. in the attic of the home in the 5100 block of Franconia Road, which is across from the Rose Hill Shopping Center (see map). Smoke was spotted coming from the roof when firefighters arrived, and photos taken at the scene show flames coming from part of the roof.

A second alarm was called in, and units from both the City of Alexandria and Fort Belvoir provided aid to the county firefighters working the blaze. Fairfax Fire and Rescue reported around 1:45 p.m. that the fire had been put out.

Franconia Road was blocked for a period while the fire was being put out, and some school buses in the area were reportedly delayed making their after-school pickups.
