Mount Vernon man killed in head-on crash

A man who lived in the Mount Vernon area died after a head-on collision in Culpeper County early Saturday morning, according to the Virginia State Police.

Altangerel Jambal was driving a 2009 Mazda 3 north in the southbound lanes of Route 29 when his vehicle struck a 1999 Toyota Avalon traveling south around 3 a.m.

Jambal, 37, died on the scene. The state police said he was wearing is seatbelt.

Jambal lived near the intersection of Jeff Todd Way and Pole Road, according to information provided by a state police spokesman.

The driver of the Toyota, a 24-year-old man from Standardsville, Va., sustained serious injuries and was flown to UVA Medical Center in Charlottesville. Police said he was not wearing a seatbelt.

The crash remains under investigation, the state police said.
