Police blotter: 2 robberies less than mile from each other Saturday
Two robberies within a mile of each other, each happening less than an hour apart, drew a large police response, including the Fairfax 1 helicopter, on Saturday afternoon.
Two men were arrested in connection with the first robbery, which happened around 5:15 p.m. in the 7200 block of Fordson Road (see map). Durand Elliot Jr., 20 and Juwan Todd, 21, each face robbery charges after allegedly pulling a knife and punching a man before stealing his backpack and phone.
Police say Todd and Elliot ran away after the incident but were later found by officers.
About 25 minutes later, another assault and robbery was reported a few blocks south of the first one on the other side of Richmond Highway. Police say a group of five men assaulted and stole property from a man in the 2900 block of Camellia Drive (see map). The victim was stabbed in the incident, and was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.
No arrests were made in the second robbery.
