Guilty plea in 2016 murder of teacher’s aide

One of the two men charged with killing 24-year-old Tarreece Sampson in the parking lot of the Cityside Huntington Metro apartments in 2016 pleaded guilty last week to 2nd degree murder and robbery. Sampson, 24, worked as a teacher’s aide at Fort Hunt Elementary School.

Fire damages house in Fort Hunt area

Firefighters needed to help two residents from a home in the 2300 block of Stirrup Lane on Saturday morning after a fire broke out in the house’s garage. No injuries were reported, according to the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department.

Tour de Mount Vernon registration open

Cyclists can now register online for the 4th annual Tour de Mount Vernon bike ride. This year’s ride will start at the Workhouse Arts Center and a portion of the route will run through Fort Belvoir for the first time.

School recognized for digital citizenship

Clermont Elementary, Hayfield Elementary and Hayfield Secondary were among 23 Fairfax County Public Schools to earn “Common Sense Recognition” for the 2018-2019 school year. The recognition is for the schools’ use of Common Sense Education’s research-based digital citizenship resources.
