Hayden: Time for a change in the 44th district
This column was submitted by Richard Hayden, a Republican candidate for the Virginia House of Delegates 44th District seat.
Do you know what the primary concern for my opponent, Paul Krizek, was at a recent debate? Climate change. Talk about being out of touch with voter concerns!
Now, I’m not saying climate change isn’t important, but it’s not more important than making sure our schools are safe and fixing our crumbling roads. However, my opponent wouldn’t know that. He’s simply another out-of-touch politician.
He takes money from special interest groups to simply carry out their agenda. If we want to change Virginia for the better, it starts with changing Paul Krizek.
After knocking on thousands of doors, actually speaking with our neighbors, I have heard the concerns about crumbling roads, keeping our children safe, lowering taxes, and the importance of promoting a culture of life.
Roads are crumbling. As I campaign across the 44th District, voters express their concern about traffic, but more so, about the physical deterioration of the road surface. They want them paved and repaired. VDOT funds were diverted to the mixing bowl project and Wilson Bridge and repaving roads went neglected due to poor management. I will make sure that our roads in Mount Vernon and Hayfield are given top priority by VDOT.
Schools are failing. In a desperate attempt to remedy the downward spiral of local schools, the current School Board wants to change school boundaries. Supervisor Dan Storck was the Mount Vernon School Board representative (and three-time chair) over 10 years and ran the schools into the ground. They are the lowest performing schools in the county. If not for our great teachers and dedicated administrators I cannot imagine how much worse off they would be. I oppose any changes in school boundaries which would dramatically affect property values. Change the Board and not the boundaries.
Krizek was a co-patron on HB 2491, which would have removed restrictions on late-term abortions. Perfectly healthy babies and babies with disabilities, nine-month old, full term babies, would have been left to die on the table. This is simply too extreme.
My opponent also took an extreme position that would prevent parents from reviewing graphic content in sex education curriculum. He also voted against HB 2570, which would have required parental permission to have their child enrolled state sex education/family life education courses. Krizek is just too extreme.
He even opposed the private school scholarship expansion for private pre-kindergarten for low income students, which ultimately became law. Think about that – he is so beholden to special interests, he voted against giving our most vulnerable children new opportunities.
Paul Krizek has neglected our interests for years. One just needs to take a drive on our local roads and highways to see a glaring example of his failure. We must stop this madness. This is not the Virginia I have come to know and love.
If you want reasonable, mainstream, common sense representation in Richmond, vote for me on November 5. My name is Richard Hayden and I will be honored to serve as your delegate for the 44th House District in the Virginia General Assembly!
Climate change is more important than lowering taxes, gerrymandering school boundaries to protect property values (aka special interests), and repaving roads. No thanks!
Mr Hayden will get my vote and those of my family. Any politician who worries more about killing the unborn and the climate change nonsense needs to retire and rock away on their porch. Fairlax County is the land of illegals, high taxes, wasteful spending, transgender bathrooms and liberal nonsense like our worthless Governor Ralph let’s let the child die after its born and call it choice Northam. I have lived in Northern Virginia my entire 60 years and the legacy of that the liberal and liberal voters have left is that my two daughters (one now married and with a new baby daughter) would never consider living in Fairfax County due to the out of touch PC driven school board and schools and leaders like Storck and now retired Gerry I never saw a tax increase I didn’t like Hyland, Toddy Puller, Gov Northam and the rest. That is the sad legacy that the liberal voters and liberal leaders have left for Fairfax County and Northern Virginia. And they will never get my or my family votes – and with retirement on the horizon – It will not be too soon to kiss Fairfax County and its taxes goodbye when we leave town.
Richard, your representation of the debate must be written for those who did not attend. I was there and it looks like you should have taken better notes. Krizek has done a good job for us, communicates regularly and is an asset for us in Richmond. We need to re-elect him.
Can you name said special interest groups Delegate Krizek is taking money from?
Mount Vernon Republicans: masochists, because they actually think they can win but endure the pain of constant loss in an area where people who don’t share their values outnumber them 10-1.
I don’t know whether Hayden is as misinformed as his column suggests or is just straight up dishonest.
He discusses the schools a lot. It sounds like he is running to be a School Board member who is focused on imposing a social agenda on the school system rather than a state Delegate focused on forging common sense solutions for the community. He also implies that Mount Vernon’s schools are in decline when, in fact, under the leadership of our School Board member Karen-Corbett Sanders, schools in Mount Vernon have surged in their academic credentials.
On HB 2491, I will give him the benefit of the doubt that he is misinformed when he claims that the bill, which would have eliminated the unduly burdensome requirement that a woman get the sign-off from three doctors before a lifesaving emergency abortion could be performed, would have allowed “perfectly healthy… nine month old full term babies, would have been left to die on the table.” This is nothing but a lie. HB 2491, introduced by Delegate Kathy Tran was a pro-life bill designed to save the lives of women and had ZERO impact on when a woman could seek an abortion.
He discusses road funding which has been an issue in Northern Virginia because the Republicans in his party had historically blocked the revenue to fix roads in our area – even though we send a disproportionate amount of money to Richmond. Recently, that log jam has been broken and more money is flowing for Transportation projects in NoVA. Roads are being paved and Delegate Krizek supported the massive infusion in transportation resources to Mount Vernon as part of the Bus Rapid Transit project. The message is clear: If you want resources in our area vote for Democrats like Paul Krizek.
Whether misinformed or dishonest, Mr. Hayden is clearly not qualified to represent the 44th District.
Wow…talk about out of touch. All this guy can do is complain and pick apart some very select issues with Paul Krizek’s performance. I don’t see a plan here, just a lot of whining! These might be issues to this guy, but without any proposed solutions, as if they are easy to fix, this guy hasn’t a clue or a plan. I’m going to complete my absentee ballot right now and I’m voting for Paul Krizek, at least he is in touch and has a plan!!!
