8 injured in crash near Mount Vernon Plaza
At least eight people were taken to local hospitals following a four-vehicle crash Monday afternoon on Fordson Road, according to the Fairfax Fire and Rescue Department.
None of the injuries were life-threatening, the fire department said in a tweet.
The crash happened around 12:30 p.m. in front of the Mount Vernon Plaza shopping center in Hybla Valley. The stretch of road is also behind a busy McDonald’s on Richmond Highway. Images tweeted by the fire department showed a large debris field stretching for more than 100 feet on Fordson Road.
Vehicles involved in the crash appeared to be a Nissan Versa sedan, a full-size pickup truck with major damage to its front end, a Ford Ranger truck and a black sedan. At least two of the vehicles involved ended up off the road — one on the McDonald’s side, one on the shopping center side — but no pedestrians were believed to be injured, a fire department spokesman said.
This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
THIS IS A DANGEROUS INTERSECTION, MORE THAN ONCE I HAVE SEEN CARS CUTTING OTHERS OFF COMING OUT OF THE SHOPPERS LOT AND THE McDONALD’S LOT JUST TRYING TO BEAT ONE ANOTHER TO THE TURN. OR PEOPLE DARTING ACROSS THE ROAD WHILE CARS ARE COMING EXPECTING THEM TO STOP. REALLY NEED A STOP LIGHT! NOT THE FIRST ACCIDENT AT THIS LOCATION.
A roundabout would slow everyone down here
