Police blotter: July 4-11

Incidents in the Mount Vernon police district from the past week included a stabbing over fireworks, two teenagers caught allegedly trying to steal tires, and two burglaries in the Belle View Shopping Center.

From Thursday’s blotter:

Vehicle Trespassing/Possession of Stolen Goods: Someone saw two men attempting to steal tires from his 2019 Ford Mustang around 3 a.m. on July 10 in the 7500 block of Richmond Highway. Police say the man scared the men off and provided a description of the suspects. Officers stopped the suspects in a car and found stolen property.

An 18-year old Alexandria man and a juvenile were arrested. The man was charged with attempted grand larceny of motor vehicle parts, grand larceny of motor vehicle parts, and possession of stolen property with the intent to sell. Charges are pending for the juvenile.

Burglary: 1506 Belle View Boulevard (Spokes Etc. Bicycle Shop), 7/9/19, 3:30 a.m. A man broke into the store and nothing was taken.

Burglary: 1500 Belle View Boulevard (Dunkin Donuts), 7/9/19, 3:30 a.m. A man broke into the store, damaged property and took a money drawer.

From Monday’s blotter (4th of July weekend):

Robbery: A man reported he was robbed after meeting a woman at a local pool in the 2800 Arlington Drive around 4:15 a.m. on July 7. The victim was assaulted by another man when he went into a nearby building. The suspect took the man’s personal property and left the area. The victim was treated at the hospital with injuries that were not life threatening. The suspect is described as black, in his 20s.

Malicious Wounding: A man and a woman were cut by a man who was sweeping a commercial parking lot in the 7900 block of Richmond Highway around 9:45 p.m. on July 4. The victims got into an argument with the man over fireworks. The man displayed a knife and assaulted the victims, causing injuries that were not life-threatening. The suspect is described as a middle-aged white man. Police declined to give further information on the incident, citing an ongoing investigation.

Aggravated assault/Unlawful discharge: Officers responded to the 3000 block of Fordson Court at 12 a.m. on July 4 after reports of gunshots in the area. Officers located a victim with a minor gunshot injury who declined hospital treatment. No other injuries were reported; rounds also struck two cars and an apartment complex. The suspects were described as being three young black males in a white SUV with dark tint. (See more here.)

Burglary: Between 2 p.m. and 9 p.m. on July 3 someone entered an apartment in the 8600 block of Sacramento Drive through the rear door and stole a firearm.
