Fairfax County Public Schools has selected Kevin Morris as the new principal of Stratford Landing Elementary School.

While Morris is new to Stratford Landing, he’s a familiar face in the West Potomac pyramid, having previously served as assistant principal of both Groveton Elementary and Waynewood Elementary.

“While serving as assistant principal at Groveton and Waynewood Elementary Schools, Mr. Morris led the collaborative development and implementation of a Local Level IV Advanced Academic Program (AAP) at both schools,” Region 3 Superintendent Nardos King said in a letter to Stratford Elementary parents. “He worked with the AAP office to assist teachers at both schools to earn the advanced academics teaching endorsement.”

Morris has worked in FCPS for 17 years, and has taught 2nd, 4th and 6th grades during his tenures at Wolftrap and Island Creek Elementary Schools. He has also worked as an instruction coach, and is a National Board Certified Teacher.

Groveton principal Jim Swoger announced Morris’s promotion in an email to that school’ parents.

“While Kevin will be greatly missed at Groveton, I believe that he is the perfect candidate to lead Stratford Landing,” Swoger said.

Morris replaces Maureen Marshall, who retired at the end of the 2018-2019 school year after serving as principal at SLES for six years and working in FCPS for more than 25 years.

Morris begins at Stratford Landing effective August 1.
