Officers deny wrongdoing in Ghaisar shooting: The two U.S. Park Police who shot 25-year-old McLean resident Bijan Ghaisar on Fort Hunt Road in November 2017 said last week they acted in self-defense. Lucas Vinyard’s and Alejandro Amaya’s statements came in civil court as part of a wrongful death suit brought by Ghaiar’ parents.

Segment on 1972 cold case murder: In case you missed it, Fox 5 aired a piece last week on the unsolved 1972 murder of Karen Spencer in the Fairhaven neighborhood. Reporter Lindsay Watts interviews residents who grew up with Spencer, a 12-year-old Hayfield Secondary School student found beaten to death in a field off of North Kings HIghway.
West Potomac Hall of Fame announcement: West Potomac High School announced the first class of the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame on Friday. The inductees include Billy Beal (basketball, football, baseball), Katie Beal (soccer, field hockey, basketball), Don Beeby (track coach), Jeff Dietze (athletic director), Chrissie Edmundson (track), Mary Fiedor (athletic trainer), Tiombe Hurd (track), Dan Meier (football coach), Willie Pile (football, basketball) and Ann Rosamond (field hockey).
