Thousands without power after storm, hail pound Route 1 area

Update: As of 9:20 p.m., there were still about 2,000 Dominion customers without power in the greater Route 1 area.
More than 5,000 Dominion Energy customers are without power in the Richmond Highway area after a thunderstorm featuring strong winds and nickel-sized hail swept through Saturday afternoon.
Residents from Belle Haven to Hybla Valley reported large hail, while people living farther south reported just lightning and thunder. The bulk of the outages reported so far appear to be in the Groveton, Hybla Valley and Penn Daw areas.
