Police blotter: Route 1 traffic brings peaceful conclusion to chase with child in car
A road rage incident that turned into a police chase ended in a true Richmond Highway style on Monday night when the suspect got caught in traffic. The result proved especially fortunate because police say a child was in the suspect’s car.
The incident unfolded Monday night around 9:20 p.m. in the 7900 block of Richmond Highway. Police say two motorists engaged in a road rage altercation, with one of the drivers leaving her car.
That driver, identified by police as a 23-year-old woman from Washington D.C., allegedly yelled at the other driver and then took unnamed items from the person’s car before driving away. Officers in the area spotted the suspect and attempted to pull her over, but she did not comply, the police said.
Eventually the suspect got stuck in traffic after “a short pursuit,” according to police. At that point officers discovered she had a 5 year old in the vehicle.
The suspect faces charges of speeding to elude, grand larceny, assault and reckless driving. She also faces a child endangerment charge.
