The Mount Vernon Council of the Knights of Columbus presented area charities with more than $65,000 in donations earlier this month from the proceeds from the group’s charity bingo series.

The Mount Vernon Knights presented the donations at the group’s Annual Appreciation Dinner, held June 15. The Knights, who raised more than $300,000 through the bingo charity in 2018, gave $12,000 to the Richmond Highway-based non-profit New Hope Housing, which works to end homelessness. United Community (formerly known as United Community Ministries) received $3,500 from the Bingo proceeds, while the Capital Area Food Bank was given $15,000.

The Knights also gave $25,000 to A Best Choice Mobile Ultrasound, which will be used for a new 4D ultrasound mobile unit. That check was presented by Richard Hayden, a Knights member who is running as a Republican for the 44th District House of Delegates seat currently occupied by Paul Krizek.

The Mount Vernon Council #5998 is a chapter of the worldwide Catholic fraternal organization, and pulls members from Good Shepherd Catholic Church and St. Louis Catholic Church. Its bingo games are held weekly at the Knights of Columbus Hall at 8592 Richmond Highway.
