Huntington Metro, other stations south of airport closed this weekend

A train pulls into Huntington in March.

The Huntington Metro station, along with the other five Metro stations south of Reagan National Airport, will be closed on Saturday and Sunday.

The closure will allow contractors to perform inspections and other pre-construction activities ahead of the upcoming platform repair project, which will close all of the stations south of the airport from May 25 until September 8.

Metro will run free shuttle buses this weekend at all of the closed stations. The shuttle from Huntington and the other Yellow Line stations will run to Crystal City, while the Blue Line shuttle from Franconia-Springfield will run to the airport.

The closure will also allow for a “dry run” of the shuttle bus service that will be running throughout the summer closure, WMATA said. The drivers will use the weekend closure as an opportunity to familiarize themselves with the routes.
