De’Mornay Pierson-El has earned another shot at the NFL, parlaying his strong showing in a smaller league this spring into a free agent contract with the Oakland Raiders.

A 2014 graduate of West Potomac, Pierson-El signed with the Raiders on Monday, the team announced. The move came days after the wide receiver lost his job in the Alliance of American Football (AAF), which suspended football operations before the end of its inaugural season. Pierson-El had been a member of the AAF’s Salt Lake Stallions.

Pierson-El made the most of his eight-game run with the Stallions, leading his team with 36 catches for 414 yards and a touchdown. The performance earned the 2018 Nebraska graduate a second shot at the NFL with Raiders.

Last summer Pierson-El spent time with the Redskins as an undrafted free agent before being released before training camp. Pierson-El also played for the Canadian Football League’s Montreal Alouettes last season.

Pierson-El is the second West Potomac graduate to sign with an NFL team this offseason. Chris Blewitt, a 2013 alum of West Potomac, joined the Chicago Bears in March and will compete to be their placekicker.
