Kiss & Ride, bus bay changes start this weekend at Huntington Metro
The Huntington Metro station’s summer closure doesn’t begin until May 25, but station users can expect to see big changes starting this weekend.
In preparation for the three-month closure to rebuild platforms and complete other work at the six stations south of Reagan National Airport, Metro is building temporary bus loops at those stations, including Huntington. The bus loops will be for free shuttles Metro will be running to replace trains during that shutdown.
At Huntington, the Huntington Avenue side Kiss & Ride will be closing. It shuts down Sunday, along with bus bays A and B on that side. Temporary stops sent up along Huntington Avenue in front of the station, as well as in the bus bays that remain open.
Metro said it will offer a shuttle during this period for ADA customers unable to access the station from the drop-off zone on Huntington Avenue. Anyone affected can call 202-962-1825 to request the shuttle.
The Kiss & Ride on the North Kings Highway side of the station will remain open, but bus stops on that side of the station will be temporarily reassigned within the existing bus bays.
Weekend closure coming
Metro will also be closing Huntington and the other five stations south of Reagan National Airport on the weekend of May 4-5. This is to allow the contractor to prepare for the May 25 shutdown, and Metro says additional weekend closures in May could be possible.
