Fairfax County Public Schools announced Friday that a new principal has been hired for Woodlawn Elementary School.

Laura Elliott, who currently serves as the principal at Triangle Elementary School in Prince William County, will start at Woodlawn on April 15.

Elliott has previously worked in FCPS as an assistant principal and instructional coach, as well as an educational specialist and a coordinator for elementary school support in the FCPS central office.

Elliott has a Master of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Old Dominion University and an Education Specialist degree in Education Administration and Supervision from The University of Virginia.

“Please join me in welcoming Ms. Elliott back to FCPS and Region 3 as the new principal of Woodlawn Elementary School!” Assistant Superintendent Terry Dade said in an email to parents. “She looks forward to joining this incredible community and working closely together with students, families, and staff to cultivate a warm, safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment.”

Woodlawn has been without a principal since September, when Dawn Hendrick left to become principal at Rose Hill Elementary. FCPS had intended to announce a new principal earlier, but weather and schedule coordination issues pushed the date back, Dade said in email to parents in February.

Hendrick had been at Woodlawn since 2011. Jamie Meier, a longtime principal at Waynewood before retiring in 2017, has served as Woodlawn’s interim principal.
