Man struck Tuesday on Richmond Highway dies, driver charged
An 82-year-old man hit by a car Tuesday morning on Richmond Highway died earlier today from his injuries, the Fairfax County Police announced.
John Bright, a Springfield resident, was crossing Route 1 at the intersection of Quander Road/Fairhaven Avenue (see map) when he was hit by a 2000 Toyota Echo. Bright, who was using a walker as he crossed the street, was in the crosswalk when he was hit, according to police. The Echo’s windshield had significant damage from the impact and Bright’s smashed walker was visible in the road after the collision.
Robin Greene, a Florida resident, faces charges of failing to pay full time and attention to driving. Police say Greene stayed on the scene and is cooperating with detectives. Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors, police said.
Bright’s death marks the second pedestrian fatality on Richmond Highway in 2019. Nelissa Alston, 51, died after being hit in the 5900 block of Richmond Highway in February. No charges have been announced from that incident.
“Greeneās death marks the second pedestrian fatality on Richmond Highway in 2019.” Green did’t die, Mr. Bright died
