A two-year-old K9 officer died Friday while helping to respond to an armed robbery in Hybla Valley, the Fairfax County Police announced.

Doby, a K9 who had been with the FCPD since March 2018, stopped breathing and collapsed while responding to a call in the Arlington Drive area, the police said. Doby’s handler performed CPR, and the dog was taken to the Regional Veterinary Referral Center in Springfield but could not be revived, police said.

Doby was born in Hungary and had recently turned two years old, according the police’s press release. After joining the FCPD last March, he began working on cases in August.

A request for more information about the robbery was not immediately returned.
