Fire department looking for “person of interest” in Megamart fire

Editor’s note: The Fairfax Fire and Rescue Department announced February 25 that a 14-year-old juvenile has been charged in the fire. Because of the suspect’s age, we have removed the original video.

The Fairfax Fire and Rescue Department released a video Tuesday showing a “person of interest” they’d like to speak to in connection with a fire in a grocery store on January 30.

The fire happened around 1:15 p.m. in the bathroom of the Megamart Supermarket located at 8228 Richmond Highway (see map). The fire was extinguished by the store’s sprinkler system before firefighters arrived.

A man was seen in the video above walking through the store around the time of the fire, and investigators want to speak with him.

The fire department is asking anyone with information about the “person of interest” to call Lieutenant S. Khan at 703-246-4738 or email salman.khan@fairfaxcounty.gov.
