It was a bit of a scene on Route 1 in the Engleside area yesterday as a driver apparently crashed into a storefront, drove away and hit another vehicle, and then fled on foot.

Ultimately the driver was apprehended. His injuries required a trip to the hospital, and a Fairfax County Police spokeswoman said he’s facing charges for driving while intoxicated.

The police’s information office didn’t have all the details Thursday, but they could say that vehicle (model unknown) plowed through the front window of Advance Auto at 8369 Richmond Highway (see map) around 4 p.m.

The driver then continued south on Route 1 before crashing into another vehicle. The driver of the second vehicle was uninjured, according to the spokeswoman.

At that point the suspect left the scene on foot. The information office didn’t know exactly where the second crash happened or where the suspect was caught.

The suspect’s name also could not be released at this point.
