Police blotter: Shots fired after argument, weapon pulled on cabbie

An argument near a Buckman Road apartment complex took a violent turn on Monday afternoon, resulting in gunshots, a trip to jail for one of the participants but no injuries, according to police.

Theophilus Sarpong, 33, faces reckless discharge and destruction of property charges after police say he fired “several rounds” shortly after 5 p.m. in the 3600 block of Buckman Road (see map). Sarpong had allegedly been arguing with two men near the apartment building when he decided to go get the weapon, police said.

At least some of the bullets struck the apartment building, police said.

No injuries were reported, and police did not say if anyone else was charged in the incident.

Gun pulled on cab driver

A teenager getting dropped off near the Virginia Hills neighborhood on Monday afternoon allegedly pulled a weapon on the driver and skipped out on his fare, police said.

The incident happened a little after 2 p.m. in the 6400 block of Telegraph Road (see map). Police, including the Fairfax1 helicopter, searched for the youth and say they found him nearby. Petitions were be sought for brandishing — the weapon turned out to be a BB gun — and larceny.

Robbery: A victim was approached in the 8400 block of Richmond Highway around midnight by a man that showed a handgun and demanded his personal belongings and cash. The victim was not injured.

Incidents reported by police in the Mount Vernon district last week:

Stolen auto: Officers were dispatched to a single-car crash in the 4000 block of Ferry Landing Road around 8:55 p.m. on Jan. 9. Police said the 20-year-old driver, Demetrius Johnson of Washington, D.C., was found walking near the scene. He allegedly admitted to the crash, and was in possession of a concealed gun with the serial number removed. The car was discovered to be stolen from Prince George’s County. Johnson was arrested and charged with concealed weapon, stolen firearm, hit and run, provide false identification to law enforcement, possession of stolen property, and unauthorized use.

Stolen auto/pursuit A silver 2016 Toyota Prius, VA tag VKW-8981, was stolen in the 7-Eleven parking lot in the 2800 block of Beacon Hill Road after the driver left her keys in the ignition. An officer spotted the car and it sped away near Route 1 near Huntington Avenue. The officer was unable to catch up to the car.

Unlawful Entry: A property manager for an apartment complex in the 2600 block of Arlington Drive found a broken window on one of his units that happened some time betwen January 4 and January 8. The thermostat had been raised inside. This unit also had a broken window last week.
