Police blotter: Four robberies reported over weekend

Four armed robberies — three involving perpetrators with a firearm and one with a knife — were reported in the Mount Vernon police district this past weekend, according to Tuesday’s Fairfax County Police blotter.

Two of the robberies happened on Friday, and during one of those incidents a shot was fired by the assailant, police said. Police said a man talking to a friend outside his house in the 8000 block of Fordson Road (see map) in the Gum Springs area around 6:20 p.m. was approached by a masked man who put a handgun into his back. The victim told the assailant he didn’t have any money, and the robber proceeded to fire a round near the victim’s foot.

The robber ran away, and no injuries were reported by police. The suspect was described as a black male who was wearing a red coat, jeans and a black ski mask.

The other incident on Friday happened around 4:30 p.m. at the intersection of Janna Lee Avenue and Tamarind Street (see map). A man pulled a gun on the victim and told him to hand over his money, police said. The victim didn’t react, so the robber pulled his wallet from his pocket. After finding no money, the man walked away.

The suspect was described by police as a light-skinned man wearing a mask and a hooded red sweatshirt.

On Saturday evening a pizza delivery driver was robbed around 10:05 p.m. in the 4300 block of Pembrook Village Drive (see map). The driver went to make his delivery at a home but the owner said he did not order anything. As the driver left, a man pulled a handgun on him, and then proceeded to take the pizza, cash and a cellphone.

The suspect was described as a black man between the age of 30 and 40, around 6 feet tall and 175 pounds and wearing all black. The police said the individual wore “a monkey mask” during incident.

The last robbery of the long weekend happened early Sunday morning at the 7-Eleven on Mount Vernon Memorial Highway (see map). Around 3 a.m. a man walked in, pulled out a knife and then fled with cash and cigarettes. No injuries were reported.

The suspect was described as being a white man in his 20s, around 6 feet tall and 165 pounds wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, green pants and tan boots. He fled in a red pickup truck. No make or model was given.
