Next time your father asks you to stop for some vegetables, do yourself a favor and buy a lottery ticket while you’re at it.

That’s the formula that worked for Vanessa Ward, who popped into the Giant at the Beacon Center on Richmond Highway last week to grab some cabbage for her dad. Ward also purchased a Win a Spin scratcher from the Virginia Lottery, and ended up winning the game’s top prize: a spin of the “Big Wheel” at lottery headquarters in Richmond, according to a lottery press release.

Ward, a Temple Hills, Md. resident, took her spin and came away with $225,000 — a whole lot of lettuce to go with that head of cabbage.

Ward told lottery officials afterward she was likely retiring soon, and that a trip to Disney World might be in the works to celebrate.
