New dialysis center coming to Route 1 near Hybla Valley

DaVIta Kidney Care will be opening in 2019 at 8123 Richmond Highway.

A new dialysis center is under construction in a vacant building on Richmond Highway between Buckman Road and Janna Lee Avenue.

DaVita Kidney Care plans to open the center later this year once a major renovation to the property has been completed.

“Our new center will provide hemodialysis to patients and should be open in late spring 2019,” the company said in a statement. “We are excited to expand to the Mount Vernon area and grow with the surrounding community.”

The building at 8123 Richmond Highway (see map) has been empty for more than a year, but served as grocery store and briefly as furniture store in recent years.

The Denver-based DaVita is one of the largest dialysis providers in the country, serving approximately 1.7 million patients. DaVita has locations in nine countries outside the U.S., and has nearby centers in the city of Alexandria, Franconia, Lorton and Arlington.
