Collingwood Lights win season premier of The Great Christmas Light Fight

The rest of the country is now aware of what locals have long known: Bill and Jan Vaughan’s Christmas display at 1601 Collingwood Road is simply the best.

The “Collingwood Lights” won the season premier of ABC’s “The Great Christmas Light Fight” on Monday, earning the Vaughans $50,000 and a trophy.

“I don’t think I’ve ever said ‘wow’ so many times,’ host and judge Taniya Nayak said after the display — featuring its signature animation and homemade props such as deer, bluebirds and fish — went live.

The Vaughans’ display faced equally amazing competitors from Texas, Florida and Mississippi in the episode. But in the end, the Vaughans’ “masterpiece” of craftsmanship, creativity and fun won the judge over.

“There’s 25 years of hard work, love and true artistry put into this display, ” Nayak said. “Every single thing is homemade, handmade and looks professionally done.”

The Vaughans were overwhelmed by the victory, and dozens of community members were already offering their congratulations on Facebook shortly after the episode ended.

“This is one of the best gifts I’ve ever received. I’m beside myself. I’m speechless,” Vaughan said.
