Weekend police blotter: Car theft suspect arrested after short chase

A man allegedly driving a stolen car tried to flee from officers on Friday morning, but ended up crashing and then getting caught while running away, according to Monday’s Fairfax County Police blotter.

The 22-year-old suspect faces charges of grand larceny, eluding, driving on a suspended license and providing a false name to avoid arrest after the incident, which began after police say they spotted him around 10:45 a.m. driving south near the intersection of Richmond Highway and Fort Hunt Road. The suspect allegedly took off in the car at that point, but only made it to Mount Eagle drive before crashing, police said.

The suspect allegedly then got out and ran, but was caught “after a brief chase,” according to police.

Assault on Law Enforcement/Grand Larceny:  Officers responded to a reported a larceny at the Walmart at 7910 Richmond Highway around 9:15 p.m. A 44-year-old Washington, D.C., man was arrested for allegedly trying to steal more than $1,000 worth of merchandise. During the incident, a 48-year-old Washington, D.C. woman allegedly attempted to obstruct the investigation. While she was being handcuffed, the suspect allegedly bit and kicked an officer. He was charged with assault on law enforcement, obstruction of justice, and providing false name to avoid arrest. The officer was not injured.

Burglary/Destruction of Property:  The property manager of a vacant apartment in the 3800 block of El Camino Place noticed that the front door of a unit had been kicked in some time between Wednesday and Friday of last week. It appeared that people had been staying in the vacant apartment temporarily, and damaged it before leaving.

Unlawful Entry:  A homeowner in the 5600 block of Kathryn Street noticed that her rear sliding glass door was open and their rear motion light was on early Saturday morning. The door had been locked the night prior and the homeowners were sleeping at the time of the burglary. Nothing appeared to be missing.
