Richmond Highway Target to undergo renovation, Starbucks may be added

The Target on Richmond Highway will undergo a renovation in the near future, and a new in-store Starbucks appears to be part of that project.
A Target spokeswoman confirmed last week that the store at 6600 Richmond Highway is among the nearly 1,000 Targets nationwide that are expected to be fully renovated sometime before the end of 2020. Fairfax County records also show that a construction permit has also been filed for a “Starbucks at Target” for the 6600 Richmond Highway location.
The Target spokeswoman, however, would not confirm that Starbucks will be coming to Route 1 Target. She also did not have specific information on when the renovation work was estimated to begin.
“As renovation at the store has not yet started, I don’t have any additional details to share at this time,” said Liz Hancock. “There are many considerations and factors that influence a remodel project’s timing, scope and specific details during the planning process.”
The Target on Richmond Highway — oddly referred to as being in “Alexandria Hybla Valley” on the company’s website — opened in 2003. It has undergone various improvements since then, including the addition of self checkouts and refrigeration/freezer units in the food section.
According to a press release on Target’s website, the company is looking to modernize existing stores with elements of the company’s next-generation design. The remodels vary from store to store, but focus on “modern design aesthetic across the store, and enhanced merchandise presentations, including areas that showcase trends and top-of-mind products for the season,” according to the press release. Another article on Target’s website says the addition of a Starbucks is also included in some store renovations.
Other Alexandria area Targets have been renovated in the past few years, including the one on Leesburg Pike in the Skyline area and the location at Potomac Yard in Alexandria. The Potomac Yard location also added a Starbucks last year (the Skyline location has long had a Starbucks).
I have heard that folks don’t like the new layouts and travel further to non renovated Targets. There they can find easily what they came to purchase.
Also must we have a Starbucks in every Safeway and Target.
Also this Target is located in Groveton district in Alexandria. By late Valley is a mile south of the store. Makes no sense but neither does the reno design. .
I would rather spend the money on the needs of the local residents
