Police blotter: Citizen holds down robbery suspect until officers arrive
A man accused of robbing a cleaners near Huntington didn’t get very far after someone nearby sprung into action, according to Monday’s Fairfax County Police blotter.
Tarik Abraham, 35, is accused of walking into the Cleaners & Tailor at 5735 Telegraph Road (see map) around 10:15 a.m. on Saturday and taking money from a register. Police say Abraham then punched a female employee in the head after she confronted him.
The victim yelled for help, and police say that’s when a nearby citizen “took immediate action.” The citizen, who was not identified by police, held Abraham down until police arrived.
Abraham, a resident of Washington D.C., was charged with robbery and remains in custody as of Monday afternoon. Police did not say if any of the parties involved required medical treatment.
Woman accused of kicking toddler, assaulting police and nurses
An 18-year-old Alexandria resident faces a long list of charges after allegedly assaulting multiple people while intoxicated, according to police.
Jeicel Varela Rosales was allegedly drunk when officers responded to the Red Carpet Inn at 8257 Richmond Highway (see map) on Sunday evening. Upon arrival officers observed several men trying to prevent Varela Rosales from harming herself, police said. During the commotion, Varela Rosales allegedly kicked a toddler, according to police.
While being taken into custody, Varela Rosales allegedly bit an officer on the arm. She was taken to the hospital due to a concerns about her level of intoxication, and there police said she assaulted “several” nurses.
Varela Rosales was charged with malicious wounding, assault on law enforcement officer, child abuse, battery against a health care provider, underage possession of alcohol and obstruction of justice.
