Police blotter: Teen stabbed during fight near Bryant Alternative School

A fight between two groups of teenagers near Bryant Alternative School resulted in stab wounds for at least one of the people involved, according to Wednesday’s Fairfax County Police blotter.

The brawl broke out around 3:35 p.m. in the 2700 block of Popkins Lane (see map), which is the same block Bryant is located on. Police said the incident started when one group of teenagers was approached by another. The two groups soon began fighting. When adults approached the fight, the participants fled, police said.

An 18 year old who was involved in the fight left the scene on his bicycle, but only made it a short distance, according to police. A person driving by saw the teenager in distress and took him to the hospital, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries from being stabbed, a police spokesman confirmed.

A Fairfax County Public Schools spokesman said FCPS security did respond to the fight, but that the incident occurred off of Bryant’s property after class had been dismissed for the day.

Police say the suspect in the stabbing is a 16-year-old Hispanic, roughly 5 foot 3 inches to 5 foot 5 inches tall and with his hair in a bun.
