The Richmond Highway area’s cutest charity walk took place last week, with youngsters and workers from three day local daycares getting together to raise money to battle breast cancer.

The second annual Kids Walk for Cancer fundraiser was held Friday at the Inova Mount Vernon Hospital complex. Workers pushed, held and walked with toddlers from Koala Kids Daycare, Carter’s Child Care and Building Blocks Family Child Care. Pink and white balloons were attached to the strollers, and all the kids wore pink bandannas.

The daycare owners came up with the idea for the walk last year. Workers at all three centers had known family members affected by breast cancer or other cancers, and decided that a kids walk would be a fun way to raise money for a cure. Proceeds from the fundraiser go toward the Susan G. Komen organization.

So far this year the group has managed to raise $805, said Lynnette Vango-Green, one of the daycare owners. The total has already topped last year’s inaugural walk, and Vango-Green said they’re hoping to get to $1,200 before all is said and done. The groups also added a GoFundMe page for the event, and contributions can be made online there.
