Inova Mount Vernon, Calvary Presbyterian among finalists for FCPS award

Inova Mount Vernon Hospital and Calvary Presbyterian Church are among 15 finalists selected by Fairfax County Public Schools for its annual Partner Awards.

Calvary Baptist Church, located on next to Mount Eagle Elementary School on North Kings Highway, is a finalist in the Community
Partner of the Year category. The church’s Eagle’s Wings Tutoring program has worked with Mount Eagle students for 29 years. Serving 26 children in grades 3-6, the partnership allows community volunteers to collaborate with teachers to tutor students.

“Many students attend the tutoring for several years in a row, resulting in a positive relationship between the student and an adult,” FCPS said in their awards announcement.

Inova Mount Vernon Hospital is a finalist in the Workforce Development Partner of the Year category for its work with West Potomac Academy students. The lets high schoolers, part of the academy’s health and medical science program, get information and real-life experience in areas related to the healthcare industry. Four West Potomac Academy graduates now work full-time at Inova Mount Vernon, according to FCPS.

The winners will be announced at FCPS’s 2018 State of Education Luncheon on November 27.

Other Richmond Highway-area organizations and businesses nominated include:

  • Arcadia Center for Sustainable Food & Agriculture
  • Fort Belvoir Directorate of Family Morale Welfare and Recreation Programing (DFMWR)
  • Kiwanis of Mt. Vernon
