All Fairfax Fire and Rescue Department stations will be holding open house events on Saturday as part of Fire Prevention Week.

The event allows children (and adults) to meet firefighters, see fire trucks and other equipment and take part in activities intended to teach fire safety. The open houses run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The nearest fire stations to the Richmond Highway corridor:

Station 11, Penn Daw
6624 Hulvey Terrace (see map)

Station 9, Mount Vernon
2601 Sherwood Hall Lane (see map)

Station 24, Woodlawn
8701 Lukens Lane (see map)

Station 37, Kingstowne
7936 Telegraph Road (see map)

There’s also an element of friendly competition to the open houses — Fairfax Fire and Rescue battalion chiefs select Best Open House winners among their stations. The Penn Daw station has been a winner each of the past two years.
