Police blotter: Mess left on man’s bed after burglary

A man returning home to his Woodlawn-area apartment after being away for a few days found a bizarre burglary scene in his unit, according to Wednesday’s Fairfax County Police blotter. Not only had someone stolen unspecified items while he was gone, but the perpetrator also left his mattress a wet mess, police said.

The burglary happened sometime between 3 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Tuesday in the 5800 block of Woodlawn Gable Drive, which is near the intersection of Jeff Todd Way and Pole Road (see map). The renter found several things missing, and then realized that the mattress had been “soaked” in windshield wiper fluid, olive oil, vinegar and coffee grounds, according to police.

There was no sign of forced entry, according to the police, and various forensic evidence was taken for examination by police.
